Tax Identification Number Information
A tax number is a number given to foreigners who do not have a valid Foreign Identification Number so that they can carry out some official transactions and record these transactions. Foreigners can open an account at some banks, purchase health insurance, and pay residence permit card fees or fees with their tax number.
Obtaining a Tax Number is a very easy process. The only document required is a valid passport.
A Tax Number can be obtained in two ways:
• Online application: Go to the Interactive Tax Office (https://dijital.gib.gov.tr/foreigners/kimlikNoBasvuru). Click on the Potential Tax Identification Number for Foreigners link and fill out the form that appears completely. When you press the "OK" button, the system will give you a tax number. Your Potential Tax Identification Number is under the line with your name on the page that opens.
• Personal application: If there is a problem with the online system, you can visit any tax office and make a personal application for a tax number. In this case, the documents needed are as follows:
o Original passport
o Photocopy of passport identity information page
o Tax Number request petition
Tax Offices only accept applications from people who receive a warning saying "Your identity and passport information could not be verified correctly" despite all information being entered correctly during the online application. In order to avoid unnecessary loss of time, it is recommended that you obtain the "Potential Tax Number for Foreigners" online.
